Just weeks after learning that Urban Outfitters is departing its Kitsilano location, we now know that Vancouver-born Aritzia is taking over the heritage building at West 4th and Yew Street.

The new tenant has plastered the windows of the iconic storefront with ‘coming soon’ signs.

The original building at 2199 West 4th was built in 1912 for the Canadian Bank of Commerce when streetcars first came to the area and it is one of a few commercial structures in Kitsilano listed on the Vancouver Heritage Registrar.

Aritzia will be the third clothing retailer to set up shop in the space. Before becoming Urban Outfitters this location was home to Le Chateau.

Aritzia was founded in Vancouver by Brian Hill in 1984 and opened its first store in Oakridge Centre. It is considered one of the hottest fashion chain in North America.
