The thrill of seeing the snow-capped North Shore Mountains can quickly be subdued when you start adding up the cost of clothing and equipment for a day on the slopes.

We’ve covered Kitsilano’s best stores for new ski and snowboard gear.

But if you’re trying skiing or snowboarding for the first time, or buying for kids who are still growing, it rarely makes sense to buy new gear. Instead, get ski slope chic for less by checking out the local consignment stores and Vancouver online classifieds. You’ll be able to outfit the entire family with pre-loved winter sportswear at great prices.

Here’s where to find used ski and snowboard gear in Kitsilano:

1. Sports Junkies

Check out Sports Junkies for new and consignment winter sports equipment and clothing. They have tons of adult ski clothes on consignment and quite a good kid’s selection too.  Used ski and snowboard packages start at $199 and with a bit of hunting around you will likely find the perfect snow shoes at a great price too.  If you’re not ready to buy, Sports Junkies offer short and long-term ski, snowboard, snowshoe and clothing rental packages.

2. Cheapskates

Right now Cheapskates’ shelves are packed with ski suits, hockey equipment, skates, backpacks, bags and accessories.  The prices are a steal and they drop 10% each week, so you if you’re a bit of a gambler you can hold out to see how cheap it can get before you buy.  Of course, leave it too long and you may miss out.

The Salvation Army and SPCA stores are the perfect place to buy accessories. They sometimes have ski wear and often have warm winter boots.
