Vancouver-born fashion retailer Aritzia has officially opened its newest boutique in Kitsilano, taking over the prominent corner property at 2199 West 4th Avenue—formerly home to Urban Outfitters.

Located in the iconic Canadian Bank of Commerce heritage building, the space blends original architectural features with modern design elements.

Aritzia has preserved the building’s grand temple-front façade, double-height main hall, and original stone and brickwork, while introducing standout touches including a custom millwork staircase beneath a skylight and a pair of bronze dog sculptures flanking the entrance.

The building, constructed in 1912 during the early days of streetcar expansion in Vancouver, is one of Kitsilano’s most architecturally significant retail locations. It previously housed Urban Outfitters until its closure in early 2024. Before that, the space was home to Le Château and before that Koolhaus.

The new boutique reflects Aritzia’s design-forward ethos and commitment to quality. Founded in Vancouver in 1984 by Brian Hill, Aritzia now operates over 125 boutiques across North America, each designed to reflect the unique character of its neighbourhood.

With its historic setting and elevated design, Aritzia’s Kitsilano boutique is poised to become a new landmark for fashion on West 4th.
