This weekend’s events are family-focused, from organized activities at the local parks to checking out cool gems and fossils, plus a free movie under the stars.
Friday, August 11th
Every Friday (and Mondays, too) until August 25th, the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House hosts Kits in the Park – a free, rain or shine outdoor drop-in program for families and caregivers with children aged 0-6. This program is perfect for meeting other families and connecting with your neighbours. It runs from 10am till noon and includes arts and crafts, circle time, and games. It’s located at Connaught Park which has a large playground and water park as well.
Just west of our neighbourhood, at Trimble Park, the West Point Grey Community Centre is hosting a free, big screen movie tonight. The movie this year is Sing so bring your picnic blankets and some pocket change for the on site barbeque and games. Family activities will start at 6:30pm and the movie will start at about 8pm.
Saturday, August 12th
Suitable for older kids, the Vancouver Gem & Mineral Show is on today (also on Friday and Sunday) from 10am till 6pm at the Kitsilano Ice Rink which is located at the Kitsilano Community Centre. This show will feature over 60 of the best gem, mineral, and jewellery vendors from across Canada and abroad, bringing you unique gems, fine crystals, rare fossils (including woolly mammoth tusks), handmade jewellery, fancy beads and findings, lapidary art and more. There will also be gold panning demonstrations and special door prizes. Children aged 12 and under are free, while tickets for adults are $8 for the day.
Note: a reminder that the SeaWheeze Half Marathon is on this morning and it may impact traffic in our neighbourhood.
Sunday, August 13th
