Supermarine is officially open for business at 1685 Yew Street this weekend. The new 35-seat seafood restaurant by James Iranzad and Josh Pape has been serving a limited crowd of friends and family weeknights this week, but for the rest of us, it’s been hard to get through the door.

The restaurant is in the former Abigail’s Party space. Abigail’s was also an Iranzad affair. We’re hopeful Supermarine will be a smash hit, given that beaches need skilled seafood restaurants, and we’re short on them in Kits.

Jacob Deacon-Evans is the chef. He’s worked at Bishop’s and West, so he knows his stuff. The menu is imaginative and the plating is pretty. We’ve heard about tempura snow crab, reinvented vongole, lobster bao buns with black garlic bisque, and even a new spin on prawn cocktail.

You can check out their cool branding on their incomplete website here: http://www.supermarine.ca/.

Note: Lead image is stock image of vongole. We have yet to snap a dish from Supermarine.
