NDP scrambling to find candidate for Vancouver-Point Grey

According to News1130, the NDP is desperate to find a candidate to compete against Christy Clark in a potential by-election in the Vancouver-Point Grey riding. Gordon Campbell is expected to give up his seat in the riding that includes Kitsilano.

The NDP sent out an email en masse Tuesday morning calling for donations to set up a campaign in Vancouver-Point Grey, but the party hasn’t hinted at who may run for the spot.

BC NDP wants to battle Christy Clark on the Westside

This has to have some long-time Kitsilano residents asking “Where’s Mel?”.

In January Kitsilano.ca reported that self-proclaimed “Mayor of Kitsilano” Mel Lehan would be tossing his NDP hat into the ring again when outgoing BC premier Gordon Campbell’s Vancouver-Point Grey constituency goes to by-election.  In the May 2009 provincial election, Lehan fell 2,314 votes short of defeating Campbell.

But does it really matter who runs against Christy Clark in Vancouver-Point Grey? Does anyone stand a chance against the Liberals on the Westside?

I don’t think people are going to welcome Clark with open arms as a parachute candidate. She’s tied to the education scandals of the early Campbell years and isn’t a change from the scandal-Campbell Liberals. I think if the NDP can find a strong candidate they have a reasonable shot at the riding.
