Arts Club Extends Come From Away Run At The Stanley

The Arts Club Theatre Company is giving Vancouver audiences more chances to see one of Canada’s most beloved musicals.

The company has announced a three-week holdover of Come From Away at the historic Stanley BFL CANADA Stage, extending a run that was originally scheduled to close on July 26. Tickets for the newly added performance dates will be available on June 8.

“Since tickets first went on sale for Come From Away, we have been in awe of the audience response,” said Peter Cathie White, Executive Director of the Arts Club. “It isn’t often that we have a show that approaches our ticketing goals even before its first preview. We are delighted to extend this production’s run and give audiences more chances to see this incredibly heartfelt show.”

The production marks the B.C. Regional Premiere of Come From Away and is directed by Arts Club Artistic Director Ashlie Corcoran. It is also one of the first non-replica productions of the musical following its acclaimed Broadway and international runs.

Inspired by the true events of September 11, Come From Away tells the story of 7,000 stranded airplane passengers whose flights were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, and the small town that opened its hearts and homes to them. With a score blending folk, Celtic, and contemporary sounds, the musical has become known for its warmth, humour, and unmistakable Canadian spirit.

“This show is a celebration of the human spirit with its message of hope and compassion,” said Corcoran. “It’s been thrilling to create this new staging with our outstanding team; our production is about honouring human connection and the resilience of community—something that feels deeply important right now.”

Come From Away has become one of the most celebrated musicals of the 21st century. It was the longest-running production in the history of Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre and earned seven Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, winning for Best Direction. The show also won four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, and five Outer Critics Circle Awards.

For Kitsilano theatre fans, the extension means a longer opportunity to catch a Broadway-calibre Canadian musical close to home at one of Vancouver’s most iconic stages.
