Kitsilano has a new grocery option on West 4th Avenue.

Fresh St. Market, a B.C.-based and family-owned grocer, has opened a new location at 2823 West 4th Avenue, at the corner of 4th and Macdonald. The store quietly opened this week, with a grand opening celebration planned for January.

The Kitsilano location is Fresh St. Market’s ninth store in British Columbia and is designed to serve as a full-service neighbourhood market, with a strong emphasis on local sourcing and ready-to-eat options. According to the company, the store features its largest hot bar to date, alongside freshly made sushi, a burrito bar, a carvery, and a wide selection of prepared foods.

“We’re excited to open in Kitsilano and become part of the 4th Avenue community,” said Palle Knudsen, Vice President of Retail Operations at Fresh St. Market. “This store is designed to be a one-stop destination, whether customers are picking up fresh produce, prepared meals, or local specialty items.”

Fresh St. Market first opened in West Vancouver in 2013 and has since built partnerships with hundreds of B.C. farms and food producers. At the Kitsilano store, shoppers will find poultry sourced from the Fraser Valley, meats from Granville Island’s Oyama Sausage Co., and charcuterie from North Vancouver’s Two Rivers Meats and Kamloops-based Chop N Block.

The market also features a full-service meat counter offering Certified Angus Beef, including a dry-aged selection aged for a minimum of 50 days. Cheese options include products from Golden Ears Cheesecrafters in Maple Ridge, Farm House Natural Cheeses from Agassiz, and Mount Lehman Cheese from Abbotsford.

Seafood at the Kitsilano location is part of the Ocean Wise program, while coffee lovers can find beans from Whistler’s Forecast Coffee. The bakery section includes Fresh St. Market’s signature warm cookies and a rotating selection of Peak Donuts, with flavours such as Custard King, Strawberry Pistachio, and Salted Dulce de Leche.

The opening brings more than 80 new jobs to the neighbourhood and supports over 200 B.C. producer partnerships. The Kitsilano store will also participate in Fresh St. Market’s FoodMesh program, which diverts surplus food to local charities, as well as its Borrow a Bag initiative, offering reusable bags through a refundable deposit system.

A grand opening event is planned for the new year, marking Fresh St. Market’s official welcome to West 4th Avenue.
