As summer winds down, Kitsilano residents are being invited to trade leisurely laps for something a little faster.
Registration is now open for the Vancouver Velocity Speed Skating Club’s 2026–2027 fall and winter season at Kitsilano Rink.
The club welcomes children and adults across a range of ages and abilities, from youngsters stepping onto the ice for the first time to experienced skaters looking to develop their short-track skills.
Children with no previous skating experience can join the club’s Learn to Skate program. The fall session runs from September 20 to December 13, followed by a winter session from January 10 to March 14.
For those who can already skate but have never tried speed skating, the club also offers a One Month Trial. It provides a lower-commitment way to experience the sport, learn its fundamentals and find out what it feels like to move around the oval at speed.
The club’s regular season runs from September 2, 2026, through March 28, 2027. Practices take place at Kitsilano Rink at 2690 Larch Street, with different sessions for learn-to-skate participants, beginners, intermediate skaters, advanced skaters and masters.

Local speed-skating fans will also have an opportunity to see the sport at its highest level when the ISU Short Track World Tour arrives at the Pacific Coliseum on October 24 and 25.
The two-day competition will bring some of the world’s fastest short-track skaters to Vancouver as they race for points in pursuit of the Crystal Globe.
