Kitsilano Beach’s long-running Boathouse Restaurant will soon see a new chapter, as acclaimed chef David Hawksworth prepares to bring a fresh dining experience to the storied waterfront space.
The Boathouse, which has operated at the site since 2010, is scheduled to close in late September 2025—several months before its lease expires in January 2026. Vancouver City Council, which oversees recommendations for park properties, is expected to formalize the selection of Hawksworth next week.
The Boathouse first took over the beachfront venue by assuming the original lease from Watermark Restaurant, which had built, funded, and operated the facility. For years, the restaurant has been a popular destination for seafood and sunset views.
City staff selected Hawksworth through an open bidding process held this past winter, which attracted proposals from other well-known local hospitality groups, including Tap & Barrel Group and Toptable Group.
Hawksworth is best known for its namesake fine-dining restaurant at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia, as well as for operating Nightingale and Bel Café. Details of the new Kitsilano Beach concept have not yet been announced and are expected to be unveiled closer to the restaurant’s opening.
“We’re incredibly excited for the opportunity to come to Kits Beach—an iconic location and one of my favourite spots in the city—with amazing views and a true West Coast vibe,” Chef David Hawksworth told the Vancouver Sun.
“This project gives us a chance to build on the success of our existing brands—Hawksworth, Nightingale, and Bel Café—while creating something that reflects the laid-back, creative spirit of the Kitsilano neighbourhood.”
It could still be some time before Hawksworth launches its plans, as the building will require significant renovations before any new operations can begin. Timelines for construction and opening have not yet been confirmed.
More details about the restaurant’s vision and renovation schedule are expected to be shared in the coming months.

great chef! I hope I can afford it still. If it’s too expensive, it will be such a loss to the community.
