Blue Peacock, representing the Republic of the Philippines, was declared the winner of the 2023 Honda Celebration of Light, after the world’s longest running offshore firework competition completed its 31st year of dazzling light displays on Saturday night.
Team Philippines was honoured as this year’s winner in both the People’s Choice and Judge’s Competition Award, based on a tightly choreographed performance, and in spite of stiff competition from Team Australia, represented by Howard & Sons, and Team Mexico represented by Grupo AVACON.
Even though each competing country mesmerised attendees with colourful displays during each performance, Blue Peacock was able to prove why they deserved first place honours with a breathtaking burst of colours throughout their performance while also pushing creative boundaries and blowing festival goers minds.
“Each of the participating teams should be congratulated for putting on a first-class performance, as evidenced by the overwhelmingly positive response from festival goers this year,” says Kelly Guille, President of Archangel Fireworks Inc. “However, Blue Peacock produced a fireworks display that was a masterpiece of colours, soundtrack, sequencing, and overall excitement and should be proud.”
Throughout the festival’s three evenings, an estimated 1.3 million attendees made their way down to viewing points to watch the spectacular firework displays. With each year, the excitement and joy the Honda Celebration of Light brings for British Columbians as well as visitors across Canada and around the world is felt near and far.
