Over the coming weeks the exterior and interior walls of The Right Shoe at West 4th & Fir will be transformed with eye-catching murals curated by local artists Rory Doyle, Mega McGrath and Arleigh Wood.

The collaboration celebrates the remarkable milestones of three iconic Birkenstock sandals — MADRID, ARIZONA and GIZEH — who this year turn 60, 50 and 40 respectively.

The murals will be officially unveiled at a private event with the artists on August 10th, taking media and guests back to the retro vibes of 1973. The evening includes a live art performance by multidisciplinary artist Sleestak who’s creation will be auctioned to support community arts programs.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Rory, Mega and Arleigh who, through their art, depict a Vancouver lifestyle and culture which is synonymous with the Birkenstock brand,” says Nancy Dodd Henderson representing Birkenstock Canada.

“There’s no better way to celebrate our three iconic sandals than through unique community art that reflects our commitment to creativity, quality and craftsmanship throughout the decades.”

Opening its doors in 1991, The Right Shoe is owned and operated by Rand Clement, whose family has a rich history deeply intertwined with the city’s athletic and active communities.

Built on the premise that “Happy feet = Happy people,” The Right Shoe is western Canada’s largest independent Birkenstock retailer and opened its flagship Birkenstock boutique in 2016.

“We’ve offered our customers a variety of Birkenstocks for over 30 years and it’s been incredible to grow as a business with these iconic sandals in our collection,” says owner Rand Clement. “We’re excited to be part of this community art and culture collaboration.”
