In response to requests from local businesses, the City of Vancouver is piloting the first pedestrian-friendly open street on Yew Street in Kitsilano between Cornwall Avenue and West 1st Avenue.

Starting at the end of June 2023, Yew Street will be closed to vehicles (except for deliveries and emergency response) for the summer.

The pedestrian-friendly open street will support safer walking and rolling access to businesses and Kitsilano Beach while helping create a great place for people to stroll, socialize, and enjoy this neighbourhood

If the pilot is successful, Yew Street could remain or return next summer as a pedestrian-friendly open street, with additional improvements added over time.
