For something a little different this weekend, try one of these three Kitsilano eateries for brunch.

You’ll still see the familiar poached eggs, savoury meats, and comforting carb sides here, but with a slight twist. Plus there are vegan and vegetarian options that will pleasantly surprise you.

Nuba

A lively Lebanese restaurant, Nuba has already had us hooked for an eternity with their rich and smooth baba ghanooj dip, addictive falafels, and that crispy cauliflower. So it’s no surprise that their brunch items are equally pleasant and perfectly exotic.

Try the Foul Medames, a traditional Levant-area breakfast dish that consists of stewed fava and broad beans with garlic, tomato, parsley, and onions. Or opt for the Breakfast Manoushe, a grilled flat bread topped with halal lamb merguez sausage, sauteed vegetables, fresh arugula, and two free-range poached eggs.

For drinks make up your own combo of freshly juiced fruit and vegetables. Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30am till 3pm.

TurF

This newish contemporary concept spot features a gym, shop, and restaurant that serves deliciously healthy brunch options that can suit most dietary requirements. Hungry patrons can work up a sweat first, after a strength training, yoga, dance, or boxing class, and then order from their all-day menu while seated in an airy, white space with long communal tables.

Try the Carrot “Lox” or the Mushroom with Ricotta toast, or go for a superfood-filled smoothie, porridge, or granola bowl. Add-ons include slow-poached eggs, pork sausages, wild salmon, bison balls, and lentil balls. For drinks there are some serious smoothies to choose from, and hot drinks that can be served with TurF’s homemade walnut or almond milk. Or go all out and have a rose. Why not.

Nook

Nook is a welcoming, laid-back, comfort-food hangout so it’s perfect for brunch, Italian-style. Try the melt-in-your-mouth Burrata with prosciutto (sourced from La Quercia), the Breakfast Sandwich with meatballs, a fried egg, parmesan, and fresh arugula, or the ultimate brunch item – The Breakfast Bacon Pizza. This baby is topped with a fried egg, bacon, hashbrowns, and cheddar cheese. Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 10:30am.
