MLA David Eby walked through the new winter-themed art show in his community office and quipped, “When we walk into the office in the morning we’ll really feel it before the heat gets turned on.”
Gracious as always, he quickly added his thanks and remarked on how the theme of the current show works well to bring several artists’ work together in the space. Everyone is invited to see the art show at the annual holiday open house December 17, 4pm – 7pm. The winter art show will be up until January 31, 2016.
Come by and see the art show, have a cup of hot chocolate, participate in a potluck, pick up a free book, and meet your neighbours. There will even be a (video) yule log.
Most work is by members of Artists in Our Midst who live in the Vancouver Point Grey constituency. AIOM artwork includes: photographs by Lynn Copeland; encaustic paintingss by Jane McDougall; mixed-media by Suzanne Summersgill; acrylic paintings by Azumi Nagai and Ann Hilton and watercolours by Mary Bennett and Lesley Bohm. Also in the show are two pieces by Kits Poetry member Maggie Wojtarowicz combining her original photographs and poems.
I send out invitations every two to three months to artists who live within the boundaries of the constituency (Arbutus to UBC; 16th to Beach).
Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to receive calls to artists. Suggestions for a theme for the February-March show are welcome.
The community office, a unique concept for a government office, is open most Mondays through Fridays 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Just drop in and if Dave is in the office he’ll want to say hello. Staff Gala, Chantille and Junie are always welcoming and you can ask anything you want about the BC government. Dave is official opposition spokesperson for housing, liquor, gaming and tourism.
There’s a sharing station where you can exchange free books and a kids’ play area.
You can book the space, which holds up to 50 people, for community events after hours. Just send an email to email@example.com and let them know what you have in mind.
I’ll be there at the open house December 17 with a card-making station for all ages. Come and say “Hi.”
