All that pink petal confetti from 90,000 flowering trees makes us want to party. The rest of Vancouver agrees. That’s why the city goes all out for Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, April 2-29. It’s a long festival, so which Vancouver community events should you attend? We break down your best options below.

Cherry Jam Downtown Concert: April 2, 12pm, Burrard Skytrain Station

A rioutous, free live musical performance to kick off the festival with Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra performers, a ukelele group, a taiko drummer, an electric guitar and a yo-yo champion. Mogu Japanese Street Eats and Blue Smoke BBQ food trucks will be parked on Dunsmuir to feed hungry attendees special cherry blossom themed items.

Sakura Illumination: April 3, 9pm, Charleson Park, False Creek in Fairveiw

Sunset Beach cherry blossom canopies will be illuminated with lanterns and video projections. Visitors are invited to wander through the magical space and celebrate the arrival of spring. Bringing a picnic and a blanket to sit under the installation is encouraged. This one is free to attend.

Sakura Days Japan Fair: April 11 & 12,  10am-5pm, VanDusen Botanical Garden

A family-friendly event under a canopy of cherry blossoms including tea ceremonies, haiku reading, sake tastings and ikebana flower arranging lessons. Japanese pop culture is also well-represented. You can even meet the voice actors of Dragonball Z. Purchase advance tickets here.

Sakura Night: April 19, 6:30pm,  Tojo’s Restaurant on 1133 W Broadway, Vancouver

Let the celebrations begin this spring with an extraordinary dining experience hosted by sushi all star Tojo and featuring Japanese cuisine created by Tojo’s Restaurant, Zen Japanese Restaurant, Hapa Izakaya, The RawBar at Fairmont Pacific Rim, Miku Restaurant as well as Zakkushi and Bella Gelateria. Get tickets here.
