This weekend is a long weekend due to that newish Family Day statutory holiday on Monday, February 9th. There are lots of free or almost free events happening nearby to make the most of a likely rainy few days. Check out the Winter Wander event in our Kitsilano neighbourhood, the Robson Square Ice Rink will be offering free skating with free skate rentals, plus we have a host of other activities listed below. Free Family Fun this Long Weekend in Kits
1. Kitsilano Community Centre and West Point Grey Community Centre
Both community centres are offering free family day festivities including dance, arts, crafts, entertainment, a bouncy castle, special treats, and more for the whole family to enjoy. Monday, February 9th, 10:30am-1:30pm. Free.
2. Kitsilano Branch Library
Give mom a break this long weekend and send dad to the Man in the Moon story time at the Kitsilano Branch Library. It’s a unique language play program for dads, uncles, step dads, foster dads, granddads, and all male caregivers with babies 0 – 18 months. Saturday, February 7th, 10:15am-11:15am. Free.
3. Pacific Spirit Regional Park’s Nature Fun by the Fire
Hear wildlife stories and songs, and roast marshmallows at a toasty campfire at our beautiful rainforest park near UBC. Plus learn tips from the animal world on how to thrive during a West Coast winter. For all ages. Monday, February 9th, 1pm-4pm. Free.
4. Bloedel Conservatory
Not quite in Kitsilano but not so far away is the lush and warm paradise inside the dome of the Bloedel Conservatory. Great for a rainy day! Discover exotic plants and tropical birds on their guided tours, get your own specialty herbs to plant at home, watch a release of butterflies and ladybugs, challenge yourself to a scavenger hunt, and check out the birds and botany tattoo station. Monday, February 9th, 10am-5pm. All activities are free with regular admission. Admission for adults is just $6.50.
