The Kitsilano Showboat kicks off its 79th season on Monday, June 23. Offering free, live entertainment every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 7pm until August 16, the Showboat is a beloved staple of Kitsilano summers.
This year opens with The Stave Falls Scottish Dancers on stage at 7pm on June 23. The poor guys were rained out last year, so let’s cross our fingers for clear skies and sunshine this time around! (All performances are weather permitting.)
Other highlights of the season include a flamenco African fusion show in tribute of Nelson Mandela on August 8 and simulcasts of the music for each night of the Celebration of Light (July 26, July 30, and August 2).
Canada Day falls on a Tuesday this year, but the Showboat is still going to celebrate the big day. Beginning at 3pm, the afternoon includes a YogaButtons all-ages class and festive cake, followed by an evening of onstage entertainment: Polonez Polish Folk Dance, a performance of O Canada, and Bob Liley and the Sanctuary All Stars.
The Showboat stage has been a landmark in Kitsilano since 1935 and has played host to a variety of acclaimed entertainers and performance artists. Its scenic backdrop adds to the spectacle and makes it one of the season’s must-attend events. Suitable for all ages and free for everybody, it makes for a lovely summer evening. Grab an ice cream or coffee and head on down for opening night this Monday.
