Khatsahlano! Music + Art Festival drew 80,000 people to West 4th Avenue in July 2012. We hear the 2013 Khatsahlano! fest, which takes place Saturday, July 13 from 11am to 8pm, will be bigger and better.

In case you missed the ruckus, Khatsahlano! is a free music event featuring the best of the best local bands performing on stages between Burrard and Macdonald. This year, 50 bands will perform. There were 40 acts last year and 30 in launch year 2011. Our local 4th Avenue BIA (ShopWest4th) has teamed up with Music B.C. and the PEAK (102.7 ) to showcase the top 20 artists chosen during the PEAK Performance Project.

Russ Davies (BIA team leader) has also reached out to a new arts agency launched by the former operators of the Waldorf Hotel to curate the arts aspect of the festival. Expect a big art show with high profile Vancouver artists displaying their work in tents.

And what’s a festival without food carts? Khatsahalano! in now accepting vendor and food cart applications.  Go to the Khatsahlano! website (still in embryo stage, but functional) to apply. Spots are going fast.

If you’re intereted in getting involved, the festival relies on volunteers. Applications open May 1. They’ll need help with  production, hospitality, merch, guest services, site safety, coordination and other areas.

We can’t wait till summer. Can you?
