Vancouver keeps getting bigger, traffic keeps getting worse, and people’s nerves are getting more frayed. But in the face of all this hustle and bustle, a classic small-is-beautiful neighbourhood celebration has made a comeback: the block party. And Kitsilano is leading the way.
In concert with Car Free Day this Sunday June 15th, Kits will be hosting 21 different block parties: six north of Fourth, nine between Fourth and Broadway, six south of Broadway. If you’re in Kits, check out this Google map (scroll down once you get there) to find one close to you.
If this concept seems a little tame and you want to step it up a notch, be sure to attend the Laburnum street party. After 7pm the party moves indoors to the Billy Bishop (Royal Canadian Legion) where there will be entertainment and some of the cheapest beers in Vancouver.
