As Rob mentioned in an earlier post, the city is planning to remove 66 linden trees from along West Broadway. The Upper Kitsilano and West Kitsilano Residents Associations are leading a call to action, and tying bags of informational flyers to the trees. The demolition is scheduled to begin in March and is meant to remedy the issue of buckling sidewalks, which admittedly, is a real concern. Just ask my normally coordinated friend visiting from Calgary the other day who tripped at least 4 times in one block. I don’t see any citizens’ group being able to deter the city since it comes down to money and getting rid of the trees is the cheapest way to solve this problem. It’ll definitely be a shame to see them go. Email keough53@hotmail.com or upperkitsilanoresidentsassociation@hotmail.com for more information.
