I recently checked out Overheard in Vancouver after I read Rob’s earlier post. Aside from discovering something new and hilarious to read, I was pleased/surprised to see that someone does actually listen when I speak:
Overheard at the Safeway checkout in Kitsilano:
Checkout clerk: How’s it going?
Customer: Great, it’s a beautiful day!
Checkout clerk: It’s too hot, I’m glad I’m working.
Customer: Jeez in Vancouver everyone either complains that it’s too hot or that it’s raining.
I am that customer and I stand by my statement. I’m almost glad I grew up in the cold, brown prairies because I know I’ll never take this city for granted!
