According to the Vancouver Sun, the Kitsilano Blue Demons are favoured to win the 61st-annual Telus B.C. High-School AAA Boys Tournament. Thanks to a buzzer beater in their Lower Mainland Championship game against St. George’s, the Blue Demons were elevated to No. 1-seed in the 20-team provincial finals which started today and continue through Saturday at the PNE Agrodome.

Four-time B.C. champions, Kitsilano drew into the tournament on what appears to be the weaker side of the draw and is favoured by many observers to reach Saturday’s championship game. If it happens, the Blue Demons will be in a position to win their fifth banner and tie the record for most championships, currently held by the Vancouver College Fighting Irish and Richmond Colts.

Kitsilano opens tournament play tomorrow with a game against either Coquitlam’s Centennial Centaurs and the Kelowna Owls. The Demons are led in the paint by 6′ 7" senior post Paul Woodham, who averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds in regular-season play, and in the backcourt by talented shooting and playmaking guards Niko Cochran and Ty Nurse, who averaged a combined 35 point per game.
