A mother and daughter have their dog to thank for saving their lives after an early morning house fire in Kitsilano yesterday. Duke, a golden lab, woke his owner by pawing and scratching at her. At first she shooed him away, but when he began to growl she knew something was wrong, said Capt. Rob Jones-Cook, public information officer for Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services. Mom and her teenage daughter made it out okay, but unfortunately the family cat did not. "We’re not sure what caused the blaze," said Jones-Cook. One thing he is sure about, however, is: "Duke should be dining on T-bone steak tonight."
Unfortunately, I can’t think of a great steak house in Kitsilano. Sorry Duke.
