Kits Point is preparing for a significant collection of street and transportation changes connected to the neighbouring Sen̓áḵw development.
According to the City of Vancouver, construction is scheduled to begin this fall on portions of Chestnut Street, Greer Avenue, Cypress Street and Cornwall Avenue.
Planned improvements include wider sidewalks along the south side of Greer Avenue, pedestrian islands at intersections and several additions to the area’s cycling network.
A two-way bike lane will be installed on Greer between Cypress and Chestnut, while the existing one-way bike lanes on Cypress will be extended north to Greer. Another two-way bike lane is planned for the east side of Chestnut, extending toward Park Lane.
The project will also introduce a protected intersection at Cornwall and Cypress with dedicated signal timing intended to reduce conflicts between turning vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
Residents should expect some disruption while the work is underway. The south curb lane of Greer Avenue will be closed during construction, although parking is expected to remain available along the north side. The City says access to residences will be maintained as much as possible.
Trees previously removed from Greer Avenue will be replaced after the transportation work is completed. Final paving and curb replacement are also expected shortly on sections of Creelman Avenue, Chestnut Street and Greer Avenue.
