One of Kitsilano’s best-known restaurants is preparing to serve its final meals.
Fable Kitchen will close its doors at 1944 West 4th Avenue on September 20, ending a 14-year run in the neighbourhood.
The farm-to-table restaurant opened in 2012 under chef and Top Chef Canada alumnus Trevor Bird. It became known for approachable seasonal cooking built around locally sourced ingredients and earned recognition in the Michelin Guide.
Co-owner Ron MacGillivray described the closure as an exceptionally difficult decision, pointing to rising labour, food, rent and utility costs, as well as financial pressure connected to the recently closed Fable Diner.
The news was reported by Noms Magazine, which noted that Fable Kitchen will continue welcoming customers until September 20.
While the West 4th restaurant is closing, the Fable name may continue in other forms. MacGillivray and his team are reportedly exploring possibilities that include a food truck and future collaborations.
Fable Bar & Grill at 755 Richards Street downtown also remains open.
The upcoming closure gives longtime customers two more weeks to revisit the restaurant and marks the loss of another established independent business from Kitsilano’s West 4th dining district.
