Kitsilano Pool’s admission system is back on the civic election agenda.
ABC Vancouver’s Raising Vancouver platform announcement today includes a promise to restore open access at the waterfront pool as part of a broader package of recreation and family policies.
The commitment renews the party’s July call to eliminate reservations, time limits and other admission restrictions at Vancouver’s public pools.
For Kitsilano swimmers, the proposal could change how visits are planned. During the final week of its 2026 season, Kits Pool operated three daily swimming sessions, with advance reservations available and a portion of each session’s capacity reserved for drop-in visitors.
The pool closed for the season on September 13.
ABC’s latest announcement also proposes bringing swimming lessons back into the school day, providing children aged three to 12 with free access to the first three levels of the Joe Fortes Learn-to-Swim program, and offering free pool and community-centre access to children under 18 in care.
The Kits Pool commitment remains a campaign proposal. The announcement does not specify an implementation date or explain how capacity would be managed under the proposed system.
For residents, it adds another question to the discussion about the aging pool’s future: how swimmers will access it in the seasons ahead.
