A 42-year-old man faces seven charges following a series of alleged bear-spray incidents in Kits Point on Thursday, September 24.
According to a Vancouver Police Department statement, officers received a report around 1 p.m. that a man had stolen bear spray from a vehicle near the 1900-block of Ogden Avenue. Police allege he sprayed the vehicle’s owner when confronted.
About 10 minutes later, a second person reported being sprayed after confronting a man who had approached their work vehicle. Police say the suspect also grabbed and threw that person’s cellphone.
The man then allegedly approached a woman, pointed bear spray at her and demanded a ride or access to her vehicle.
Responding officers located the suspect, who allegedly sprayed bear spray at them before being taken into custody.
Jonathan Laberge-Labrecque has been charged with theft under $5,000, robbery, two counts of assault with a weapon and three counts of assault with a weapon against a peace officer.
