The Arts Club Theatre Company will launch its 2026–2027 season with the B.C. premiere of Heist, a fast-moving crime caper packed with suspense, humour, and theatrical sleight of hand.
Written by Arun Lakra and directed by Andrew Kushnir, Heist runs from September 17 to October 18, 2026, at the historic Stanley Theatre.
The play assembles a crew familiar to fans of classic heist movies: a conman, a hacker, a cat burglar, the muscle, and the mysterious mastermind who brings them together. Their target is a multimillion-dollar gem, and their mission is to execute the perfect crime.
Naturally, things don’t go according to plan.
When the job unravels, the thieves discover that the scheme is far more complicated than it first appeared. With the stakes climbing, each member of the team must decide whom to trust—and who may be preparing to betray them.
The nonlinear story moves between the unfolding caper and revealing flashbacks, giving audiences the chance to collect clues and reconsider what they think they know. Snappy dialogue, high-tech stagecraft, and a steady supply of twists bring the energy of a Hollywood thriller into a live theatrical setting.
“Heist is a fast-paced, cinematic stage thriller that brings a classic crime caper to life at full tilt,” said Arts Club Artistic Director Ashlie Corcoran.
“What I love about this play is how cheekily it takes a story we all instinctively read as cinematic and says, nope, theatre can do this too. It has the pace, humour, and jaw-dropping twists of a great heist movie, but it’s engineered for the stage.”
With its combination of a whodunit mystery, elaborate crime plot, and live theatrical surprises, Heist promises to get the Arts Club’s new season off to an adrenaline-fuelled start.
Heist runs September 17 to October 18, 2026, at the Stanley BFL CANADA Stage. Tickets and additional information are available through the Arts Club Theatre Company.
