Public tips have led to an arrest and charge following the alleged assault of a 73-year-old man in Kitsilano.
Vancouver Police were called on July 31 after the senior was allegedly assaulted near West Broadway and Macdonald Street shortly before 4 p.m.
Investigators believe a man had been yelling at people passing through the area when the senior approached and asked him to stop yelling and move along. Police allege that a verbal altercation followed and the senior was pushed to the ground. He suffered head injuries in the incident.
VPD released an image of the suspect and appealed for the public’s help on August 10. Later that afternoon, police received several tips reporting a man matching the suspect’s description near West 4th Avenue and Vine Street.
Officers attended the area and arrested the man without incident.
“We want to thank the public for all the tips we received in relation to this assault,” VPD Constable Megan Lui said in an August 11 update.
Paul Henry Desroches, 53, has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm. Police said he remained in custody pending a bail hearing as of August 11.
The charge is an allegation and has not been proven in court.
