Little Folks Village Returns To Vancouver Folk Music Festival

The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is bringing back one of its most family-friendly traditions this summer, with Little Folks Village returning to Jericho Beach Park.

Open during festival weekend from Friday, July 17 through Sunday, July 19, Little Folks Village offers children and families a creative, playful space filled with music, movement, storytelling, art, water play, and hands-on activities.

The village will be open Friday from 3pm to 5pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. It is located on the east side of the park, just north of the Main Gate.

“We are thrilled to have our Little Folks Village back at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival,” said Fiona Black, Artistic Director of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. “The best part about this village is that children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. We believe that the love of music begins at an early age, and we also recognize the pressure families are under.”

Throughout the weekend, young festivalgoers can visit the Creation Station to make take-home art and imaginative creatures, explore an expanded water play zone with toys, bubbles, and wands, and keep an eye out for Red Bird roving around the festival site.

Saturday’s programming includes stilt performances and juggling from Pete “Redbird” & Friends, interactive storytelling and costume parades with Nylon Zoo, Indigenous storytelling from Haida storyteller Kung Jaadee, a marimba ensemble performance by Saint James Music Academy, and a performance by students from the Sarah McLachlan School of Music.

On Sunday, Redbird & Friends and Nylon Zoo return, while Compagnie V’ni Dansi brings traditional Métis and contemporary dance to the village. The Muevete Marimba Ensemble will also perform, followed by an opportunity for children to try the marimbas themselves.

Children 12 and under receive free festival admission when accompanied by a paid adult. Little ones must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
