Vancouver’s Ensemble Theatre Festival returns to the Jericho Arts Centre this summer with Bloodlines, running from July 8 to 19.
Returning after a three-year hiatus, the festival pairs two productions examining ambition, identity, family, and survival within unforgiving social systems.
Jiehae Park’s Peerless, directed by Keltie Forsyth, is a darkly comic reimagining of Macbeth set in the competitive world of elite college admissions. The razor-sharp play follows twin sisters M and L as their ambition spirals into obsession.
Chris Lam directs Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning A Streetcar Named Desire. The enduring drama follows Blanche DuBois as she arrives in New Orleans to stay with her sister Stella and brother-in-law Stanley, setting desire, delusion, and conflicting realities on a collision course.
The festival will also feature brunchtime performances by singer-songwriter and actor Violet Grace on July 12 and Vancouver improv group Fistful of Kicks on July 19.
Tickets for the main productions are $35, with discounted tickets available for students, seniors, and arts workers. Preview and brunchtime performances are pay-what-you-can.
