Canada’s historic World Cup run is coming back to the big screen in Kitsilano.
The Hollywood Theatre will host a free community watch party for Canada’s Round of 16 match against Morocco on Saturday, July 4, giving local fans a chance to cheer on the national team from one of Vancouver’s most iconic neighbourhood venues.
Kickoff is scheduled for 10:00am, with doors expected to open one hour before the match. The game will be shown on the Hollywood’s 25-foot cinema screen with theatre sound, turning the West Broadway landmark into a stadium-style viewing room for one of the biggest matches in Canadian men’s soccer history.
Canada advanced to the Round of 16 after a dramatic 1-0 win over South Africa, sealed by Stephen Eustáquio’s stoppage-time goal. Morocco booked its spot after knocking out the Netherlands on penalties, setting up a high-stakes July 4 showdown in Houston.
The Hollywood Theatre is offering free RSVP tickets for the match, though seating is primarily first-come, first-served and walk-ins will depend on capacity. The venue says food trucks will be available outside on match days, with drink specials inside and a 19+ bar available for wristbanded patrons.
With Canada now one win away from the quarterfinals, Kitsilano fans looking for a lively local place to watch will not have to go far.
