Vancouver Folk Music Festival Sets Stage With Two Free Community Events

The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is warming up for its annual return to Jericho Beach Park with two free community events designed to give audiences an early taste of this year’s celebration.

The Festival returns to Kitsilano from July 17 to 19, 2026, bringing a weekend of internationally acclaimed artists, emerging voices, collaborative performances, food vendors, artisan markets, family programming, and community gathering spaces to one of Vancouver’s most iconic waterfront venues.

Ahead of the weekend festival, organizers are inviting the public to experience live music for free at two events in the city.

“Folk music has always been about bringing people together,” said Fiona Black, Artistic Director of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. “And we want to celebrate that folk is for all. Our Festival is a celebration of music as a gathering place for communities, cultures and generations.”

On Saturday, July 11, the Festival will host the Maple Stage at the Khatsahlano Street Party, one of Vancouver’s largest free community celebrations. Black will MC the day-long concert series, which will feature local performers reflecting the range of sounds audiences can expect at the Festival.

A second free event, Rooftop Rhythms, takes place Thursday, July 16 at the Vancouver Public Library Central Branch. The pre-festival gathering will offer a more intimate downtown experience, with El Balcón taking the stage at 2:00pm for a performance blending Mexican and Middle Eastern influences with jazz.

The Vancouver Folk Music Festival officially opens Friday, July 17, with performances beginning at 3:00pm across three stages before evening Mainstage performances from Aysanabee, Hazlett, and Sahra Halgan.

Saturday and Sunday programming begins at 10:30am across three stages, with performances and collaborative sessions including Rise Up and Sing, Global Ties That Bind, and Stories from Across the Pond.

Saturday evening’s Mainstage lineup includes Tami Neilson, Billy Bragg, and Ruby Waters, while Sunday evening features Maruja Limón, Valerie June, and BIM, the Benin International Musical.
