Vancouver Maritime Museum Launches Harbour Sailing Experience

Kitsilano’s Vancouver Maritime Museum is inviting locals and visitors to experience the city’s waterfront from a different perspective.

The museum has partnered with Vancouver by Sea to launch the Vancouver Maritime Experience, a three-hour guided outing that begins inside the museum before continuing onto the water aboard a sailing yacht.

The experience starts with a curated visit at the Vancouver Maritime Museum, highlighting key themes in Vancouver’s maritime history. From there, guests transition directly from the museum to the dock at Heritage Harbour, where they board a yacht for a relaxed sail through Vancouver’s inner harbour and nearby coastline.

The goal is to connect the stories told inside the museum with the landscapes that shaped them.

“This experience is about understanding Vancouver through its maritime history,” the museum notes. “Landmarks, shoreline features, and working waterfront spaces feel different when seen from the water.”

The Vancouver Maritime Experience is designed to be calm, conversational, and accessible to beginners. No sailing experience is required, and the museum says the outing is suitable for older children who are comfortable on boats.

Each booking includes entry to the Vancouver Maritime Museum, a professional skipper and guide, a sailing yacht, safety equipment, light historical narration during the sail, and sparkling and still water.

The experience is operated by MacSailing, Canada’s largest sailing school, which has operated on Vancouver’s waterfront since 1999. Routes and timing vary depending on weather and marine traffic, with each outing planned around comfort and safety.

The Vancouver Maritime Experience runs Thursdays and Sundays, with morning and afternoon sessions available. Prices start at $1,099 for up to eight people.

The Vancouver Maritime Museum is located at 1905 Ogden Avenue in Vanier Park.
