A new neighbourhood park is officially moving forward at the edge of Kitsilano.

Vancouver Park Board commissioners have approved the concept plan for Burrard Slopes Park, clearing the way for a new one-hectare green space on the border of Kitsilano and Fairview.

The park is expected to bring much-needed outdoor space to two of Vancouver’s fastest-growing neighbourhoods, particularly as development under the Broadway Plan continues to add density to the area.

“Kitsilano and Fairview are two of the fastest growing neighbourhoods in Vancouver,” said Park Board Chair Tom Digby. “Burrard Slopes Park will be a vital greenspace for the community to gather, play, enjoy culture and seek rest and relaxation for years to come.”

Designed with the Community

The park’s concept design reflects input from local First Nations, businesses, and residents, with a focus on creating a welcoming space that supports both active use and quiet relaxation.

The plan was further expanded in 2025 after the Park Board acquired an additional parcel of land at West 5th Avenue and Fir Street, allowing for more amenities, including a dedicated fitness area.

What the Park Will Include

Once complete, Burrard Slopes Park will feature:

  • A large central lawn for everyday use and small community events
  • An expanded playground with accessible equipment and surfaces
  • A fenced dog off-leash area, separated from other park spaces
  • A plaza-style skateboard and small-wheels area designed for all ages and skill levels
  • A new outdoor fitness zone with workout equipment
  • Pollinator and rain gardens with native plantings
  • Accessible pathways throughout the park
  • Washroom facilities

The skate area will be surrounded by landscaped hills to help reduce noise and create a buffer between activities, while the dog area responds to growing demand from the neighbourhood’s increasing number of pet owners.

What’s Next

Park Board staff will now move into detailed design work, with construction currently targeted for 2027.

An official name for the park will be announced separately through a future naming process.

Once built, Burrard Slopes Park is expected to become a key gathering place for Kitsilano and Fairview residents—offering a mix of recreation, nature, and community space in one of Vancouver’s most rapidly evolving areas.
