Suspense is set to take centre stage in South Granville as Arts Club Theatre Company brings Dial M for Murder to the Stanley Theatre this winter.
Running from February 5 to March 8, 2026, at the Stanley BFL CANADA Stage, the production features a sharp, modern adaptation by Jeffrey Hatcher of Frederick Knott’s classic psychological thriller. Directed by Jillian Keiley and presented in partnership with Theatre Calgary, the play promises a tense, fast-paced evening of theatre just steps from Kits Beach.
The story centres on Tony, a man whose discovery of his wife Margot’s affair sends him down a dark path. What begins as jealousy quickly escalates into a meticulously planned murder, complete with an airtight alibi—or so he believes. As Margot, her lover, and an unexpected figure from the past become entangled in Tony’s scheme, the plot tightens into a dangerous web of deception, blackmail, and betrayal. The question hangs in the air throughout: will he get away with it?
Hatcher’s adaptation updates the dialogue and pacing while staying true to the twists that made Dial M for Murder a classic. The result is a taut, dialogue-driven thriller that explores power, control, and the risks of underestimating others. With shifting loyalties and mounting pressure, the play unfolds as a gripping cat-and-mouse game that keeps audiences guessing until the final moments.
Arts Club Theatre Company Artistic Director Ashlie Corcoran says the production strikes a balance between timeless suspense and modern storytelling, noting that the real intrigue lies in watching Tony’s plan unravel—and how he reacts when forced to improvise.
Previews begin February 5, with opening night on February 11. Tickets start at $29 and are available online.
