The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation is marking the first anniversary of its popular partnership with Batch at the Kitsilano Pool concession by turning up the heat—literally and figuratively. A new collaboration with local favourite DownLow (DL) Chicken and a 60-seat expansion of the licensed patio was announced this week, just in time for the busy summer season.
Since opening in June 2024, the patio has transformed an underused deck beside Kits Pool into a vibrant, licensed gathering space with sweeping views of the North Shore mountains. Serving local food and drinks alongside live music, the space quickly became a go-to destination for both residents and visitors.
“This is the kind of partnership that reflects our commitment to creating welcoming, dynamic public spaces while supporting local business,” said Park Board Chair Laura Christensen. “It’s exciting to see people coming together in a vibrant community space while enjoying good food and live music set against Vancouver’s picturesque skyline.”
The concession is now open Tuesdays through Fridays from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 10 p.m. The updated menu features DL Chicken’s bold, Nashville-style fare, including fan favourites like the OG Sando and DL Tenders, along with new additions such as Burrito on the DL, the SWagyu Dog, and the Kits All-Beef Burger.
“We’re excited to be partnering with the Park Board and the amazing Batch team,” said Doug Stephen, co-founder of DL Chicken. “Kitsilano has always been a neighbourhood full of energy and great food culture. We can’t wait to be part of that and bring the heat to the community with our fried chicken creations.”
Batch owner John Negrin said the collaboration has been a great way to connect with the community and revitalize a key public space. “We’ve always believed that public spaces can—and should—be lively, welcoming places that bring people together,” he said. “We’re thrilled to partner with DownLow Chicken and continue our collaboration with the Vancouver Park Board as we grow into this epic location.”
With added seating, locally sourced ingredients, and a scenic backdrop, the Kits Pool patio is shaping up to be one of the summer’s best spots to eat, drink, and soak up the sun.
