A bold new landmark has been installed at the corner of West 4th Avenue and Yew Street in Kits.
The retro-inspired “Kits Corner” sign was developed by Low Tide Properties, a real estate venture led by Lululemon founder Chip Wilson.
Featuring a neon-lit logo, flashing bulbs, and colourful directional arrows, the sign points toward popular local beach destinations such as Kits Beach, Wreck Beach, Jericho Beach, and Sunset Beach. Additional signage includes the words “peace” and “love,” reinforcing Kitsilano’s laid-back character.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by Low Tide Properties to revitalize this section of West 4th Avenue, an area frequently visited by locals and tourists during the summer months. The new installation marks the beginning of planned improvements to what the company describes as a key gathering spot for the Kitsilano community.
Wilson and his family have been long-time residents and investors in the area, with ownership stakes in over 20 properties along the West 4th corridor including the Kits Corner apartments.
“My wife, family and I have been in Kits since the 1986 World Fair. We live and breathe everything that’s Kitsilano—from the beach to tennis to volleyball to the amazing people who have a way of living that elevates the world,” said Chip Wilson.
“Our family has been involved in the ownership of 23 locations on West 4th. The unveiling of Kits Corner is the icing on the cake after nearly 40 years of living, working and investing in this neighborhood. From Westbeach to lululemon, Ride Cycle Club, Peak Performance, Arc’teryx, Kit and Ace, TurF and more, we’re committed to keeping the spirit of Kits alive. It’s always been bold, creative and a little counterculture—and we want that red thread to keep running through the community.”
The new sign is intended to celebrate Kitsilano’s history of creativity and countercultural spirit while supporting the district’s ongoing vibrancy.
