Look out for two more new great eateries opening soon in our Kitsilano neighbourhood – La Ruota Pizzeria and Kokomo. Both are second locations for these businesses and we’re excited to have them nearby.

La Ruota Pizzeria

Opening in June, these guys make authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas in an Italian stone hearth oven, firing the pies at 900ºF. Both traditional and new world pizzas are offered by La Ruota, such as the Margherita, Prosciutto, or Quattro Formaggi, and the Pepperoni and dare we say, the Hawaiian. The flour used is the imported Italian Caputo “00” flour which is additive free and has a lower gluten content compared to other wheat flours. The dough is then fermented for a minimum of 48 hours. Then the pies are topped with Italian and locally sourced vegetables and meats. And, they deliver.

Kokomo

Plant-based cafe Kokomo has a strong following already in their first location over in Chinatown, and now this summer we can look forward to having them in our hood, in the former Culprit Coffee spot. Menu items are gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan, and include acai bowls (made with raw granola and coconut yogurt), salads, superfood bowls, smoothies, cold-pressed juices, and kombucha. But it’s their desserts made with their famous Australian Cocowhip that are the biggest hit – think of the Cocowhip as a soft-serve frozen treat made with coconut water, organic bio-fermented coconut powder, and plant-sourced stabilizers, and topped with fresh fruit and shredded coconut.
