Premier Christy Clark was in election mode last night as she was acclaimed the B.C. Liberal candidate in the upcoming Vancouver-Point Grey byelection.

Speaking at Kitsilano Neighbourhood House, Clark framed the contest against Vancouver-Point Grey NDP candidate David Eby and NDP Leader Adrian Dix  as the choice between a failed past or a brighter future.  The nomination meeting was largely procedural — as the sole person seeking the Liberal candidacy, Clark was quickly acclaimed.

The byelection will be held May 11th from 8am to 8pm with advance polls from May 4th to May 7th from 8am to 8pm. So Clark has three weeks to sway Vancouver-Point Grey voters to her side .

To the victor will go a seat in the legislature for the coming spring session, which begins April 27th and runs until June 2nd. Despite being the sitting premier, Clark can’t participate in the legislature until she has a seat.

Eby, the former director of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association, was acclaimed as the New Democrat candidate in the same venue the night before.
