Vancouver’s West Side is getting a front-row seat to the world’s biggest soccer tournament this summer, as UBC Properties Trust brings back Soccer in the Square to Wesbrook Village.
Running from June 11 to July 19, the free outdoor event will transform Norman MacKenzie Square into a lively fan zone, broadcasting live matches on a big screen in the heart of the community.
Timed to coincide with World Cup that will partly be hosted in Vancouver, the series promises to bring an added layer of excitement to the city’s growing soccer culture.
Designed as an all-ages gathering space, the setup encourages a relaxed, drop-in atmosphere. Visitors can settle in under a shaded tent, with limited seating available on-site and plenty of room to bring a blanket or camping chair for a more comfortable viewing experience.
Beyond the matches themselves, Soccer in the Square is being positioned as a full summer hangout. Organizers say the space will host family-friendly movies between games, ensuring there’s always something happening in the square—even on off-days.
The event also taps into one of Wesbrook Village’s biggest strengths: its walkable mix of local food options. Attendees are encouraged to grab takeout from nearby restaurants or pack a picnic and make an afternoon of it, with cafés, bakeries, and eateries just steps from the action.
As in previous years, the vibe is intentionally community-first—welcoming families, friend groups, and even leashed dogs to gather, connect, and cheer together. With a combination of live sport, outdoor seating, and a built-in neighbourhood atmosphere, it offers a simple way to enjoy summer in Vancouver without leaving the West Side.
Match schedules and additional programming will be posted on the Live at UBC events calendar, with times subject to change as the tournament progresses.
