Artists across Kitsilano and Vancouver’s West Side will once again open their doors to the public later this spring, as the West of Main Art Walk returns for a special two-day event.

Taking place Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the free, all-ages experience invites visitors to explore more than 70 artists’ studios and satellite venues across neighbourhoods including Kitsilano, Point Grey, Dunbar, and Shaughnessy.

Now in its latest edition, the long-running Art Walk offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the city’s creative community—giving attendees the chance to meet artists in their own workspaces, learn about their process, and purchase original pieces directly.

“This Art Walk offers a rare opportunity to experience art at its source,” said Julianne Chladny, President of the Artists in Our Midst Society. “Meeting artists in their own environments allows visitors to understand not only the finished work, but the ideas, materials, and stories behind it.”

This year’s event features 50 returning artists alongside more than 20 new participants, showcasing a wide range of mediums including painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, and kinetic art.

The self-guided tour spans a broad stretch of the West Side—from 1st Avenue to 35th Avenue, and from Tolmie Street to Main Street—allowing visitors to plan their own route and explore at their own pace. Organizers have made available both printable and interactive maps, along with artist previews, to help attendees navigate the event.

In Kitsilano, a central highlight will be the Art For All fundraiser at Kitsilano Neighbourhood House (2305 West 7th Avenue). Participating artists have contributed original 6-by-6-inch works, each priced at $50, with proceeds supporting local arts initiatives including the Downtown Community Health Centre Arts Collective, Outsiders and Others Gallery, and a scholarship for Lord Byng Secondary School students.

Leading up to the event, local businesses across Kitsilano and neighbouring communities will also display artwork in their storefronts throughout May, offering an early glimpse of participating artists and helping build momentum for the weekend.

First launched in 1993, the West of Main Art Walk was Vancouver’s original open studio tour. Organized by the Artists in Our Midst Society, the event continues to focus on making art accessible outside traditional gallery spaces while strengthening connections between artists and the community.

For Kitsilano residents and visitors alike, the weekend promises a unique opportunity to discover local talent, explore creative spaces, and experience art in a more personal and interactive way.
