As Sen̓áḵw rises at the south end of the Burrard Street Bridge, the landmark Indigenous-led development is also opening the door to new retail opportunities that could reshape the Kitsilano shopping and services landscape.
The 10.5-acre, Squamish Nation–led project will eventually include more than 6,000 rental homes, along with ground-level retail designed to support daily life in a dense, walkable neighbourhood. The first phase of retail space is expected to become available starting in 2026.
Plans call for community-oriented businesses such as cafés, small markets, bike shops, pet services, and other everyday amenities that serve both residents and the surrounding Kitsilano area. Retail units will feature high ceilings, generous glazing, and sustainable design elements tied into Sen̓áḵw’s low-carbon district energy system.
Importantly, the project is actively encouraging interest from Indigenous entrepreneurs, including members of the Squamish Nation, alongside other businesses that align with the development’s values and community focus.
With its prominent location, built-in customer base, and emphasis on walkability and culture, retail at Sen̓áḵw represents a rare opportunity for local businesses to be part of one of Vancouver’s most significant new neighbourhoods.
