DanceHouse returns this fall with a daring and intimate work from one of Montréal’s most celebrated choreographers. Daniel Léveillé’s Amour, acide et noix (Love, Acid and Nuts) takes the stage at the Vancouver Playhouse on October 24 and 25, 2025, at 8 p.m.

A stripped-down study of beauty, vulnerability, and the human body, the full-length piece features four dancers performing nude—revealing, through the mechanics of arms, legs, and torsos, the complex emotions that bind and separate us.

Amour, acide et noix is a landmark in dance—an unflinching, minimalist masterpiece that confronts beauty, vulnerability, and the human body with rare honesty,” says Jim Smith, Artistic and Executive Director of DanceHouse. “It transformed Montréal’s dance scene upon its 2001 premiere and continues to resonate more than 20 years later.”

Set to a soundscape blending Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, pop music, and birdsong, the dancers move through solos, duets, and ensemble sequences that gradually shed shock to reveal something universal—our need for connection and solitude, for grounding and escape.

The Village Voice called the piece “as disturbing as it is compelling,” noting that Léveillé “forces the audience into the participatory act of confronting our taboos and desires.” What begins as provocation becomes an invitation to rediscover humanity through movement.

Pre-show talks begin at 7:15 p.m. each evening, and a post-show reception will follow Friday’s performance in the Salon. Tickets and more information are available at dancehouse.ca.
