The Arts Club Theatre Company is set to serve up Waitress, the uplifting Broadway musical, at Vancouver’s Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage from June 12 to August 3.

Directed by Ashlie Corcoran, the production features a heartfelt score by Grammy Award–winning artist Sara Bareilles and tells the story of small-town pie-maker Jenna, played by Rachel Drance.

Adapted from the 2007 indie film by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress follows Jenna as she navigates an unplanned pregnancy and a difficult marriage, pinning her hopes on a pie-baking contest and the possibility of a fresh start. With the help of diner friends and a new romance, she embarks on a deeply personal journey of self-discovery.

“Jenna’s not a typical musical protagonist,” said Corcoran. “She doesn’t always make the best choices, but I feel we can all relate to how incredibly human she is.”

Making her professional theatre debut, Drance is known for her roles in Virgin River and The Flash. The production’s creative team also includes choreographer Shelley Stewart Hunt and musical director Caitlin Hayes. Audiences can expect a fully immersive experience, with detailed stage design and atmospheric soundscapes that bring the diner setting to life.

Tickets available online.
