Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants—curated by food critics, renowned chefs, restaurateurs, and discerning diners—offers the definitive ranking of the country’s finest dining experiences.
This year, Kitsilano’s own AnnaLena has made a major leap, cracking the top 10 for the first time as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. Known for its inventive and refined tasting menus, Chef Mike Robbins continues to deliver dishes that are whimsical, seasonal, and deeply flavourful. Signature favourites like the oyster with apple-jalapeño mignonette and torn bread with mussels remain, while new seasonal offerings include scallop mousse-stuffed morels and dry-aged duck.
The restaurant recently underwent a bold redesign, trading its bright palette for moody navy tones that complement its playful décor—think Lego sculptures and Star Wars memorabilia. Despite the sophistication on the plate, AnnaLena maintains a relaxed, unpretentious vibe. Beverage director Reverie Beall elevates the experience with rare wines from small producers and a cocktail list that blends classic techniques with modern flair.
Also representing Kitsilano, Maenam earned the #94 spot on this year’s list. Since opening in 2009, Chef Angus An—a Taiwan-born chef who trained at London’s Michelin-starred Nahm and travelled extensively through Thailand—has helped reshape Vancouverites’ understanding of Thai cuisine. Known for intensely flavourful dishes, Maenam offers a strong à la carte menu, but the family-style chef’s tasting menu is the best way to experience the depth of the kitchen’s creativity.
