The iconic Kitsilano Showboat was heavily damaged by a fire last month, leaving the 2023 summer season of shows in question.

The unique outdoor amphitheater has been entertaining locals and visitors with free performances for over 80 years.

Fortunately the season has been partially saved and the Kitsilano Showboat Society will be running a modified program starting with opening night on Monday, June 19th at 7pm.

According to Kitsilano Showboat Society President Barry Leinbach, this year’s Showboat schedule will be scaled back to only 11 shows due to the damage caused by the fire.

With no changing rooms, washrooms or storage space and limited access to power, many groups that usually perform at Showboat cannot be accommodated.

“We have received hundreds of emails and messages of support,” Barry says. “The community is behind us, and everyone at Showboat is grateful for their support.”

The Society has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support efforts to restore the seaside amphitheatre that has provided free, multicultural entertainment since 1935.
