After receiving almost 8,000 survey responses from the public, the City of Vancouver shared the results of a public consultation process for the Granville Bridge Connector.

Residents were presented with six designs for how to reallocate two of the Granville Bridge’s traffic lanes to create pathways for travelling by foot, bike and wheelchair and the “West Side Plus” (image above) option was the winner.

“West Side Plus was by far the most popular option with the public during two previous rounds of engagement,” said Paul Storer, Manager of Transportation Design. “People also shared ideas, many of which we’ve been able to incorporate, for improving the design to ensure it offers the best possible experience for users.”

It turned out the option senior city staff had publicly endorsed, an elevated pedestrian/bicycle path in the bridge’s middle two lanes, was not a hit with the public.

Starting January 24th, the public will have the opportunity to share final feedback before a proposed design is presented to City Council for decision.
