The City of Vancouver is planning to sell seven parcels of land near Granville Island back to Canadian Pacific Railway for $1.

The former Arbutus rail corridor lands were purchased by the city from CP in 2016.

Since then, the city has constructed the popular Arbutus Greenway, a paved multi-use trail running from West 6th Avenue and Fir Street south to SW Marine Drive.

The parcels of land in question are on the east side of Fir Street between West 1st Avenue and West 5th Avenue. The Greenway doesn’t currently run north past West 6th Avenue.

The City would like to make amendments to the Arbutus Corridor Official Development Plan to remove these lands as they are no longer required for transportation or greenway purposes.

On September 5th the City will hold a public hearing that includes this controversial decision.
